CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE SURVEY

Note: This survey is completely anonymous.

What is the Townsend Charter?

Townsend's Charter is the document that outlines the basic information about how the town government is structured, organized and operates.

What is this review about?

The current Townsend Home Rule Charter, adopted in 1999, calls for a review of the charter every 10 years. The Board of Selectmen has established a nine-member committee to review the charter as specified in the Charter. The Charter Review Committee, appointed this summer, has begun analyzing the current Charter.

This committee will make a report, with recommendations, to the Annual Town Meeting, spring 2012. Any changes to the Charter would first need to be approved by Town Meeting and then by ballot vote of the Town at an Annual Election or by Special Act of the State Legislature.

Please help us by taking a few minutes to answer the following questions: (this survey is anonymous)

Optional: Your Email Address if you want to be contacted:

Optional: Your Name:

Question 1: Have you read the charter?

Question 2: Have you had to refer to the charter and if so, why?

Question 3: Have you had any issues with the charter?

Question 4: Do you have any suggestions for charter revisions?

You may also return a hard (paper) copy of this survey to the Townsend Town Clerk's Office. Thank you for helping!
