How to Apply for a Septic Permit

A  Permit is required before beginning construction, alteration, major repairs and improvements to your septic system.

Deep hole soil tests are required in the proposed septic system location.

Forms and Regulations are now on line for your convenience:

Subsurface Sewage Disposal Regulations  (18 page .pdf, 1Mb)

Forms for Septic System Work and Lot Testing  (3 page .pdf, 493 Kb)

Townsend Well Regulations  (7 page .pdf, 299 Kb)

Septic System Work and Lot Testing Forms are filed with Nashua Associated Boards of Health,  30 Central Ave, Ayer    978-772-3335

The Board of Health would like to remind all homeowners, when or if you plan on selling your home, please be sure to get a Title V inspection and a Water Quality Test plus Radon as soon as possible.  Each report is valid for 2 years from the report date.  A Title V report can be extended for an additional year if you provide two annual pumping receipts.   Don't let a surprise ruin your sale or put off your closing date.
