Description of Services
The Recreation
Commission shall be responsible for the development, operation, scheduling and
coordination of recreation programs for the Town. The Commission shall
have the powers and duties as may be provided by the laws of the
Commonwealth, the Charter, By-Law or other Town Meeting vote.

Middle School DANCE
CHAPERONES NEEDED!
- I need 10 CORI-cleared adults to chaperone each
Hawthorne Brook dance. Dances are 4/1 & 5/6 from 7-9 P.M., for
6-8th grade students. Could you just volunteer for one dance? None of our
children want us there! Just remind them, “No chaperones = no dances!”
Please consider. Without your help, I can’t run
these dances.

ABC
FOLLOW ME - Preschool - ABC Follow
Me is a children’s playtime and story time combined with music and movement
program. Being offered is a series of parent/child programs devoted to
encouraging families to engage in fun, physical activities together. Children
will have the opportunity to play, run, jump, throw, catch, and socialize in a
playgroup environment. Each week a different theme will be introduced and the
story and activities will go along with each theme. Beth Anne McManus will lead
the weekly sessions. Sessions will be held in the Town Hall, Main
St.,
Thursdays, May 5,12,19,26, June 2, 9
from 10-10:45 A.M.
Sessions are for walker - age 4. Cost is $36 for the six week sessions. Daily
rate is $8/class per child . For additional information e-mail

EARTH DAY - April
30, 2011 - Going Organic Theme. Magician Steve Rudolph at 1:00 P.M. Slot
space-$20 for profit, $0 for nonprofit groups. -

ARCHERY CLASS
- Age 12 and up. Townsend Rod and Gun on Thursdays, April 7,14,21,28, May 5.
6:00 - 7:30 pm. Five week session-$90. Mail in

BABYSITTING CLASS
- Debbie LaFlamme will be teaching a
babysitting class for grades 5 and up on Sunday, April 3, 2011, from 1-5 P.M. in
Meeting Hall B, at the Library/Senior Center complex. Certificate will be
given. Cost is $30. Space is limited. Confirm slot by March 29,
2011. Mail in form and payment
after confirming by e-mail.
CPR COURSE - Tom
Whittier will conduct a two part CPR Course on April 19 and April 26, 2011 from
7-9 P.M, in Meeting Hall B, at the Library/Senior Center complex. Cost is $35. Space
is limited.

SPRING TENNIS -
Spaulding Memorial School, May 16, 23 June 6, 13, 2011. Right after school
until 4:30 P.M. Cost is $20. Space is limited. Racquets and balls

EMPLOYMENT
OPPORTUNITIES! INSTRUCTORS NEEDED
-SPRING TENNIS -
Instructors needed - pay is $10/hr. Can you teach youngsters the
basics and fun of Tennis? Looking for mature person to provide Tennis instruction
to be held after school at each school gym in the Spring.
-PARENT/TODDLER SUMMER PROGRAM - Instructor needed
- Pay is $8/hour. Looking for a mature person to run a
summer, two day a week, 1.5 hours per day, for six weeks, parent/toddler
program.
-SUMMER MUSICAL THEATER DIRECTOR - Instructor needed
- Pay is $9/hour. Seeking day time musical theater director. 10 hours per week
for six weeks.

SUMMER RECREATION -
Registration
Form for all Programs - click here
Program runs Six weeks, Monday, June 27 to
Friday, Aug.5th (weekdays), either 9 - 12 noon, or 9 - 2 P.M. No Rec. on
July 4th.
Prices: - for Six week program: 9-12: $175; 9-2: $250. Weekly,
9-12 or 9-2: $55. Daily, 9-12 or 9-2: $12.
Counselor in Training (CIT) - 2 week program,
9-noon, at Hawthorne Brook (July 5-8 + July 11-15) $50. for age 14 and up, or
has completed 8th grade (20 person limit).
CIT II Program cost-$50, must have
completed CIT program and complete an interview. Only 6 will be chosen to
participate. Apply by 4/30/10.
SUMMER TENNIS - Ashby Town Courts, Aug. 8-12,
ages 7-12 (1:30-2:30 P.M), ages 12 & up - (2:30-3:30 P.M.), $70
SUMMER NIGHT THEATER - “Check Please” - Show
is night of August 12, 2011 in the Town Hall. Evening rehearsals. Watch for
try out dates. Grades 5 and above. Free to join! Sponsored by Townsend
Cultural Council.
SUMMER DAY MUSICAL THEATER - “King Artie and the Knights of the Rad Table” -
Try outs at Hawthorne Brook in May. Grades 5 and above. $75. Show is
August 4, 2011 during the day.

tennis courts at Hawthorne Brook, create after school tennis programs and
explore the possibility of building a skateboard park!
Townsend Recreation Commission Policies
All programs are offered to
Townsend Residents on a first come, first serve basis. Townsend Recreation
Commission reserves the right to cancel or consolidate any program that does not
meet the minimum participant registration numbers. Remember nothing terminates a
program faster than waiting until the last minute to register. Avoid
disappointment and register promptly.
Participants' Responsibility
We ask all participants to respect the staff, volunteers, coaches, other
participants, age requirements, and the equipment we use. Additional rules will
be announced at each program. If a participant fails to cooperate with the
rules, the Director reserves the right to dismiss or suspend a participant in
any program without a refund of fees.
Townsend Recreation Commission is not a day care, after-school care program or
babysitting service. Please read and understand the policies. If they are
unclear to you, please ask questions.
All participants must
pre-register for ALL programs. The Recreation Supervisor on duty is solely
responsible for the activity that is taking place. Children should not be left
unattended in the building or at the fields at any time. Please be on time
dropping off and picking up children from their programs. Failure to do so will
result in additional cost of $1.00 per minute or suspension from programming.
Registration
Registrations will be accepted until the program is full or 1 week prior to the
start date. In some cases, registration will be accepted up till the start of
the program. You may register for a program by contacting the Recreation
Director, Karen Clement at clem6six@verizon.net. We accept mail in registration
by printing off a copy of our registration form, and sending a check with the
registrant’s information to Townsend Recreation, C/O Karen Clement, 101 Main
Street, Townsend, Ma. 01469. All Townsend residents will be given first
opportunity to sign up for a program. If a particular program sells out quickly,
non-residents may not be allowed to register.
Non-Residents
Non-Residents can register for programs for an additional fee pending space
available. You must fill out a registration form during the registration times
in order to be placed on a waiting list. Program fee plus an additional
non-resident fee will be collected prior to the start of the program should
space allow.
Payment
Payment is due at the time of registration, check or money order made payable to
Townsend Recreation Commission. A fee of $35.00 will be charged for any check
returned for insufficient funds. No new registration of programming will be
allowed until the $35.00 fee is paid.
Age Requirements
Participants must be of noted age or grade by the first day of the program in
which they are enrolled. No exceptions will be made.
Course Confirmation
No confirmations are sent out!!!!! Please understand that it is the registrant’s
responsibility to know the date, time, and location of any program. A
participant is registered only when payment is received, unless the department
notifies you otherwise. We will only notify you if there are any problems or
changes.
Refunds
All programs are refundable within 7 days before the program starts, unless the
Recreation Commission cancels a program, or you have mailed in a registration
and no openings exist. You may request to withdraw from a program in sufficient
time (7 days prior), pending that a replacement can be found and the Recreation
Commission has incurred no costs.
Photo Policy
Photographs and videos may be taken during some of Townsend Recreation Programs.
These photographs and names may be used in future brochures, slide programs,
bulletin board displays, newsletters and local newspapers, cable, and satellite
providers. If you don't want to have you and or your child photographed and name
published, please let us know ahead of time. Pictures are a nice way to show
others what the programs look like.
Personal Belongings
Please DO NOT bring any valuables, toys, or games to our programs. The
Recreation Commission is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. To be
safe, leave articles or valuables at home unless necessary for the program. We
do not maintain a lost and found for items left at fields and facilities were
programs are held.
