The Town Clerk is the keeper of vital statistics, the custodian of the Town
Seal, administers the oath of office to all persons elected or appointed to any
Town office, and issues such licenses and permits as are required by law.
The Town Clerk supervises and manages the conduct of all elections and other
matters relating to elections. The Town Clerk serves as the Clerk of Town
Meeting, keeps its records, and in the absence of the Town Moderator and Deputy
Moderator, presides pending election of a temporary Moderator by Town Meeting
vote. The Town Clerk has such other powers and duties as given by the laws
of the Commonwealth, the Town Charter, By-Laws and by other Town Meeting vote.
The Town Clerk is an elected Office, with a three year term
The Town Clerk's office is the place to go, for a great
deal of town business. At the Town Clerk's office, you can
register to Vote, obtain a
Passport, a
Dog License, a
Fishing, Hunting or Trapping
License, a Marriage License,
obtain copies of vital records such as
Birth Certificates, Marriage
Certificates and Death Certificates, register your home business as
a DBA, and more. When in
doubt about which Office or Department you should contact, the Town Clerk will
help you find what you're looking for, or point you in the right direction.
Passports is a service provided by the Town Clerk's Office.
The Town Clerk has Passport Application Forms. The Town Clerk also has Passport Renewal Forms.
Make sure you fill out the
correct form (First Time, Renewal, Adult, Minor, etc.).
It takes at least 4 to 6 weeks to receive the
Passport. If you need it sooner,

International Airlines and cruise ships stopping at ports-of-call outside US
territory require a passport. Travelers
should check to be sure you have the correct
type of Passport document: Passport Book or Passport Card.
Passport Book is valid for international travel by land, air and sea.
Passport Card is valid
when entering the United States
from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean
and Bermuda at land border crossings
or sea ports-of-entry. Not valid for
international travel by air.

Execution Fee of $25 per Application, payable to the Town of Townsend.
There are special rules for Minors
