Description of Services

The Historic District Commission administers the Townsend Historic District By-Law, which establishes three areas of Zoning Overlay Districts for the preservation, protection and development of the distinctive characteristics of historical assets - buildings and places significant in the history of the Town of Townsend, or their architecture - through the maintenance and improvement of settings for such buildings and places and the encouragement of design compatible therewith. The Commission enforces the Historic District regulations and reviews and approves plans for changes to properties within the Historic Districts.  Click on the District links below for sketches and descriptions of each District.
