The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing the Dog By-Law in
Townsend. The Animal Control Officer responds to complaints, safety issues
or problems regarding dogs, stray dogs, barking dogs, dog bites/dog attacks, stray cats,
lost & found dogs & cats, and other animal issues. The Animal Control
Officer often has dogs and cats in need of a good home, ready for adoption.
If you need an animal carcass removed from a public road, please contact the
Highway Department.
The Townsend Animal Control Officer is appointed by the Board of
Selectmen, and works under the supervision of the Police Department.
The Animal Control Officer deals
with all animals. Mary is a licensed Problem Animal Control Agent in MA.
She is also a licensed Trapper.
Mary also serves as Animal Control Officer for
the Town of Ashby.
