Appointments: Jerri Bozicas and Claire Kauppi, both attended the meeting to discuss the condition and potential upgrading/restoration of the bandstand.

Jerry had several photos of surrounding area bandstands showing their style and condition. Her goal would be to preserve and restore the bandstand on the Common.

The group discussed the current condition of the bandstand.  The floor has been deteriorating, some of the floor boards have been replaced with much of the sub flooring repaired/replaced in 2010.

Paint removal could be expensive since it would require the removal of lead paint.

Some of the millwork is rotten and deteriorating it might be difficult replace exactly.

The original ceiling is vaulted not the current flat one.  A portion of the ceiling would need to be removed in order to access the condition of the vaulted ceiling.

Wiring would need to be brought up to code.  Keep hanging lights.

The back section of the bandstand is not original and added as a temporary fix by an Eagle Scott.  Claire mentioned that the HDC approved the addition as a temporary addition.

There was a discussion if the group should be a town committee, ad hoc group and whether or not the group needs to apply for 501c status in order to make donations tax deductible.  Applying or a 501c can take time and there is annual reporting that would need to be done. There are currently two town funds one a trust fund and the other is a revolving.  People could make donations ands the money deposited into the revolving account.

John made a motion that the Cemetery & Parks support and acknowledge Jerry’s proposal to establish a Volunteer (non town) committee/group for the preservation and restoration of the band stand.  All were in favor motion carried.

Roger suggested that the group contact Chaz Sexton Diranian BOS member.  Roger will also reach out to Andy Baum from the engineering firm that is over seeing the sidewalk project to see if he can recommend a structural
